Welcome Crossinator

Crossinator has just joined the blogroll. I’d like to call attention to his recent post Incarnational Living just as a sample.

Comments on Moderation and the Blogroll

There is a bit of a discussion going on over on my Threads blog about just who belongs on this blogroll. I invite comment. I maintain this blogroll as a service, and it should serve the community. There’s no way to get formal votes, but I welcome discussion, either publicly in comments or in e-mail to henry@energion.com.

Note that while e-mail is fine, I’m a big fan of keeping these discussions public. There’s no secret inner room on the blogroll, and my ego is not attached to who gets to be here. It is a fun community thing, and I enjoy it. So feel free to say how you feel! :-)

Useful Stuff for Collecting Links

From the Evangelical Outpost: Notes on Blogging: The RSS Reader as Blog Tool (Part II). I use a similar plan when I create those rare roundups of the moderate Christian blogroll. It’s not collecting the links that’s the problem. It’s finding time to put my comments.

Speaking of which, I may start just pasting a snapshot from the aggregator into here every so often. That gives everyone a link and shows the most recent post.

RSS and Javascript

It appears that the blogrolling RSS code now requires Javascript, and so will not work on wordpress.com blogs. You can still subscribe to the most recent posts RSS feed.

The feed URL for the most recent posts is http://www.energionpubs.com/wordpress/?bdprssfeed=1

If I remember correctly I set this up for the most recent 50 posts, so you can choose any number you wish. The standard wordpress widget will do up to 10 which is what I have in the sidebar here.

Blogroll Requirements

While there are no requirements for sites to be included in the aggregator, to be listed in the blogroll you are asked to do one of several things:

  1. Post the blogroll on a page on your site or on one of your sidebars. (Information here. This option simply provides a full list of participants. Depending on your software you can choose how many to display. They are displayed in random order so that nobody will be favored.
  2. Post the RSS feed. (Information here). This lists the most recent posts, up to 25 via RSS.
  3. Provide the various links for the aggregator on your site.
  4. Finally, keep at least five members of the blogroll in your own blogroll. This is a new option.

I think these options should provide everyone with a workable alternative for them. Some people don’t like to have every site on the blogroll displayed. It’s hard to tell precisely what will make someone uncomfortable, so that’s what the last two options are for. Remember, however, that the purpose of a blogroll like this is to spread information and encourage communication. If you’re on the blogroll, but don’t provide any links, you’re not doing your part.

I have very little time to police the blogroll, but I will be looking from time to time and reminding people, as well as removing blogs that are not active. If you get removed, and it was by accident, or perhaps you were inactive and you’ve become active again, just e-mail me and I’ll look into it. I’d like this blogroll to be a benefit to everyone.

Please Welcome Getting There
